Darian's Week

After Chicago, you'd think things would've slowed down a bit. Yeah... not so much. I guess a little bit, but we still kept busy... all... week... long.

Monday was her first day of the Herron School of Art Youth Art Camp (had to put the full name all in here one). This was the whole reason she came up here. We weren't sure what to expect, but knew it was sure to be a good program because the school itself has a great reputation. Sure enough, when I picked her up that afternoon, Darian was beaming - she had a blast! From everything I heard her saying, it was indeed, an awesome art camp to be going to. It was going to be a great week!

Monday night, we did take it easy after the busy, busy weekend we had. We grilled out some ribs at home and ate on the front porch. We did, eventually, take a walk around the neighborhood, which included a stop at out Dairy Queen. But that was it. I think we were all ready to call it an early night.

After the Art Camp on Tuesday, we met up with Eric's parents for some pizza at Bazbeaux's on Moss Ave. We caught them up on our Chicago adventure and Darian talked about some of her favorite things thus far in her trip. From there, we walked a little further up Mass Ave to the frozen yogurt place, YoguLatte. So still not a crazy night, but still not a lot of down time to take it easy, either.

Wednesday, Eric was out of town, so we did a little shopping for ourselves. Nothing major... just hit a few places to see what was new. We found Darian a new little purse to carry with her so she didn't have to always have her backpack with her. It was purple, of course.

Thursday, things starting ramping up again. After I picked Darian up from her Art Camp, we headed to the Indiana Fever game that night. She'd never seen professional basketball, WNBA of NBA, so this was a fun, new experience for her. I had to laugh because she thought the court was so small... she's just used to her soccer fields. We both had a good time, though, and this is definitely a perk to living downtown - being able to just walk over to an event like this.

Friday was her last day of Art Camp, so they had a little student exhibition at the end of the day, allowing everyone to come it, look at the artwork, and meet some of the teachers. Everyone just LOVED Darian and couldn't say enough good things about her - they were bummed she was from out of state and couldn't come back and visit later in the year! Of course, she made quite a few new friends, too - but that doesn't surprise anyone.

After we went out to grab a bite to eat at one of our new favorite spots, B's PoBoys, it was time to head the the Indy Indian's game (our minor league team). Another sport she hasn't seen professionally. While this is not major league team or park, it still a great place to watch the up and coming pro's. We always try to make a few games every year. While it was a little humid, on top of a very slow paced game, it was still fun and was topped off with some fireworks. Overall, another fun night.

Saturday morning was the annual Walk for Wishes charity event for Make-A-Wish. Since it was actually at a great location, Fort Harrison State Park, it was a good thing to take Darian to - a little charity, a little nature... all good things. Only, it was a wee bit humid. It was quite a way to work up a sweat in the morning. But it was still nice and a fun thing to do. We just had to come home and take showers afterwards!

Then it time for another museum... we went to Indy's art museum, Indianapolis Museum of Art. It a much smaller scale than Chicago's, but it's the right size for our city. And still has a lot of good stuff in AND out of it! Our museum isn't just a building, it's a campus. And it's FREE! So we wander the floors there for a couple of hours, just taking it in. The biggest thing I wanted to show her was the Robert Indiana 'LOVE' sculpture on the front lawn, which we saw coming in. It's a very relaxing place to go, no matter the day or time.

Saturday evening, one of Eric's friend's had a BBQ to host another of his friends that was in from Colorado. Since we don't get to see them too often, we had to go. And I must say, Darian was a trooper, as the one with no kids her age. She finally found her niche with Cartoon Network when one of her favorite shows came on. Then it was trying to get her to leave.

Sunday... finally a day we could sleep in.

Oh, and I forgot to mention, this was an unexpected extra day! Midway through the week, Eric realized he would have to be in FL on Monday, so after some talking to Darian and her parents, she decided to stay the extra day so she didn't have to fly as an 'unaccompanied minor' back to FL. I was excited at this prospect of having an extra day, even if there was nothing major planned!

Anyway... we slowly woke up and had a French Toast breakfast around 11am, finally. Then when I asked Darian what she wanted to do, giver her some option, she threw another on out there - go see a movie. I was game - I don't get to the movies to often. So we took in the 3D version of 'Brave'. Good movie. The 3D was cool, too.

But after the movie, it was time to really get ready to leave. What a week! It's been so much fun! I'll probably pass out early tonight, but it was well worth it. I went to the airport with them and we had some pizza in the common area before they went through security. Turned out their plane was delayed, anyway. But then then finally left me.

*sigh*

The house is just too quiet now...
